If
you are not sure what length of necklace to purchase,
this guide should help. The most common length for a
pearl necklace is 18", followed by 16".
If you are not sure what length the person for whom
you are buying the pearls would like, you might try measuring
a necklace or two that they already own.
Also remember that a pearl necklace or bracelet will
fit a little bit tighter than the same length in a gold
chain. This is due to the pearls pushing the center of
the strand away from the neck or wrist. This is noticed
mostly with bracelets, whereas the difference in fit
of a pearl necklace as opposed to a gold chain necklace
is very slight.
• 10-14-inch
Pearl Necklaces:
These short pearl necklace lengths are appropriate for extremely petite
adults and/or children, wrapping close around the neckline.
• 16-inch Pearl Necklaces:
This is the more traditional “choker” pearl
necklace length for adults. This pearl choker wraps
closely around the neckline above
the breastbone, ensuring the necklace is clearly visible regardless of
the type of clothing worn.
• 18-inch
Pearl Necklaces:
This is the most popular length for pearl necklaces and is referred
to as the “Princess Length”. It does not hug the neckline quite so
closely, allowing the pearls to rest gently upon the breastbone.
• 20
to 24-inch Pearl Necklaces:
These pearl necklace lengths are often referred to as “Matinee” lengths
and will rest comfortably along the bust line.

and can be worn below the bust line or as a double
